The high school football season kicks off for the three local teams tonight.

In Class C1 action, number 6 Scotus visits top-ranked and defending state champion Wahoo in a game you can hear on KZ-100.  Shamrocks head coach Tyler Linder knows his team has some big shoes to fill following the graduation of star quarterback Tyler Palmer and Scotus’ leading all-time tackler, Eric Mustard.

Senior Evan Bock will play at quarterback this year, after seeing time at running back and slot receiver.  Linder calls Bock “a dynamic and explosive player.”  He added Scotus is excited to get Bock in a rhythm by “connecting with guys like Luke Pryzmus and Devon Borchers in the run game and Garrett Oakley in the passing game.”

Linder says he’s “excited about this year’s crop of defensive players.”  He admits the unit is young, but added sometimes that’s needed for a spark of enthusiasm. The Shamrocks’ showdown with the Warriors kicks off at 7 p.m. on KZEN.

Other football season openers on the air tonight include Columbus High hosting Scottsbluff: it’s a 6 p.m. kickoff on KLIR 101. Twin River visits David City for a 7 p.m. tilt on 93.5 The Hawk.  It will be followed at 10:30 p.m. by the Hawk Scoreboard Show.  And the Pinnacle Bank Coaches Show airs at 9 a.m. tomorrow on KLIR 101.

Lakeview visits Boys Town tonight.  Vikings AD Jake Shadley says if you aren’t an immediate family member of a player who has a ticket from Lakeview, Boys Town will not sell tickets to the general public due to COVID-19.

In prep football last night, Nebraska Christian downed Palmer 20-12.
