Schwellenbach Becomes 40th Former Husker to Play in MLB

Former Husker Spencer Schwellenbach became the 40th Nebraska baseball player to reach the Major Leagues, although he took the loss in Atlanta last night as the Braves were downed by Washington 7-2.

Schwellenbach, who was the Braves’ No. 3 prospect, was cruising until he gave up a three-run homer to Lane Thomas in the fifth.

It was still a solid big league debut for Atlanta’s second-round draft pick in 2021 out of NU.  He allowed three earned runs in five innings, striking out five and walking one.
