Coming on the heels of Monday’s announcement that youth baseball and softball practice can start June 1st, Governor Pete Ricketts and NSAA Executive Director Jay Bellar spent part of last night’s COVID-19 town hall meeting on NET talking about sports.

Both said how well social-distancing guidelines work in those two sports and in school’s weight rooms that also reopen June 1st will help them make decisions about opening other sports.

Bellar said “hopefully we get a fall season, but if we don’t don’t a good job this summer that may not happen.” He noted that not all sports are equal when it comes to social distancing, with separation in golf being easier than in soccer.

As far as football, Bellar admitted the “number of people in the crowds” will probably be affected by the pandemic.
