Rhule: Kickers Unsettled, Praise for Bonner at Slot Receiver

Matt Rhule met with the media yesterday to preview the Nebraska football team’s season opener this Saturday against UTEP.

He said the Miners have a “dynamic offense and an aggressive defense.”  Asked about the Huskers kickers, Rhule said he plans to play all of them Saturday, calling kicker “probably the one position we’re still quite unsettled on.”

Rhule was asked about the transition Janiran Bonner made from a fullback to the starting slot receiver.  “We said, ‘hey let’s put him in the slot and see how physical he can be’ and he’s just done excellent,” Rhule said.  “We can be in 11 personnel and all of a sudden get under center and have him be the fullback.  There’s lots of things you can do with a guy like Janiran.  At the end of the day he’s just a winner.  He’s tough, really tough.  He’s kind of emblematic of the type of guys I love to coach.”

Saturday’s kickoff at Memorial Stadium is set for 2:30 p.m. The pregame starts at 10:30 a.m. on News Talk 900 KJSK.  It will be joined at 2 p.m. on 93.5 The Hawk.
