Rhule Hired as Nebraska’s Head Football Coach

Nebraska hired Matt Rhule as its head football coach this morning.

The 47-year old Rhule was fired by the Carolina Panthers on October 10th, early in his third season as head coach of the NFL team.  He previously had success as a college football head coach, turning around the programs at Temple and Baylor.  Rhule guided those two teams to 10-plus win seasons three times between 2013 and 2019.

In a news release today, Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts said Rhule’s success as the head coach at Temple and Baylor provides evidence of his ability to build a program and made him an ideal fit at Nebraska.

NU has signed Rhule to an eight-year contract.  Alberts will introduce Rhule on Monday in Lincoln.  Additional contract details will be made available at Monday’s press conference.
