Rhule: Former Wisconsin OC Had Best Game Plan vs. NU in ’23

Nebraska coach Matt Rhule said yesterday he thought former Wisconsin offensive coordinator Phil Longo had the best offensive game plan of any team the Huskers faced.

Longo was in his second season with the Badgers this year before being fired on Sunday, a day after Wisconsin’s 16-13 home loss to No. 1 Oregon.  Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell didn’t go into details yesterday with the media on why he fired Longo.  He also didn’t specify who would call plays Saturday at Nebraska indicating it would be a collaborative effort.  Rhule also met with the media yesterday and said the best thing his team can do is “just focus on ourselves and try to fix some of the issues” the Huskers had against USC.

He noted Wisconsin and NU are in the same position as when they met last season, with each team trying to win one more game to gain bowl eligibility.  “I 100% believe in the impact that has on your program and your development over time,” Rhule said.  “We’re right back in the same spot with a chance for us to win the game and extend the season and watch the development for our young players.”

Rhule also praised Nebraska’s seniors in advance of their final home game this Saturday.  And he bemoaned the fact that next year’s roster limits will cut the number of players from 150 to 105, calling this year “the end of an era.”

Saturday’s kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.  The pregame starts at 10:30 a.m. on News Talk 900 KJSK.  It will be joined at 2 p.m. on 93.5 The Hawk.
