Reports: NSAA Approves Changes in Several Sports

The NSAA has reportedly approved changes in baseball, basketball and football.

The organization’s board of directors yesterday approved adding Class C in baseball, according to multiple reports.  The state baseball tournament’s format will also be altered from an eight-team, double-elimination event to a pair of four-team, double-elimination brackets with the winners meeting in one championship game.

In basketball, the board decided the girls and boys state tournaments will be played in separate weeks after being combined this year.  However, whether those tourneys return to a three-day schedule and include games at Lincoln high schools or each run four days at PBA and the Devaney Center will be revisited next month.  A limited use of video replay for the state hoops tournaments was also approved.

In the football playoffs, the board approved Classes C-1 and C-2 now having the higher seed host games in all rounds through the semifinals, which is already done in Classes A and B.
