Former Nebraska assistant football coach Kevin Steele will reportedly serve as Tennessee’s acting head coach.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports Steele, who signed a two-year contract last week to become a defensive assistant coach, will guide the Volunteers program while the university searches for a replacement for Jeremy Pruitt.

Tennessee fired Pruitt and nine other assistants and staff members yesterday after an internal investigation found serious violations of NCAA recruiting rules.

Steele served as NU’s linebackers coach under head coach Tom Osborne from 1989 to 1994.
