Povich’s MLB Debut Seen as Better Than Final Line Shows

Former Nebraska pitcher Cade Povich took the loss in his Major League debut Thursday, as the Baltimore Orioles fell at Toronto, 6-5.

The 24-year old lefty was a bit wild, but pitched better than his final line showed.  Povich allowed six runs on five hits over 5.1 innings.  He walked four, including two in the third inning before Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a three-run homer to break a scoreless tie.

Povich was a second-round draft pick out of NU in 2021 by Minnesota.  The Twins traded him to the Orioles last August.  The Bellevue West grad was called up yesterday from Triple-A Norfolk, becoming the 41st former Husker to reach the big leagues.
