Povich Called Up by Orioles, Schwellenbach Takes Loss For Braves

Former Nebraska pitcher Cade Povich today became the 41st Husker to reach the Major Leagues.

The Baltimore Orioles called up Povich from their Triple-A club, Norfolk today.  He’s scheduled to make his big league debut this afternoon, getting the start for the Orioles at Toronto.  The Bellevue, Nebraska native was 5-1 in 11 starts with the Tides this season, posting a 3.18 ERA and 75 strikeouts in 56.2 innings.

Meanwhile, former NU pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach, the 40th Husker to make it to Majors, had a rocky second career start for the Atlanta Braves last night.  He took the loss in a 9-0 defeat to Boston at Fenway Park, allowing six earned runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings.  His record fell to 0-2 as his ERA jumped to 8.38.
