Overtime State Title Game Suits H/LHF Boys Just Fine

Another day, another overtime, another boys basketball state championship for Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.

The Bulldogs captured their third state title in four years by edging defending C2 state champion GICC 43-42 in OT Friday evening at Pinnacle Bank Arena.    A year ago, H/LHF got by Howells-Dodge in overtime to win the D1 crown.  And in a rematch with the Jaguars in Monday’s C2 quarterfinals, history repeated itself as the Bulldogs won with an extra four minutes needed.

In today’s win over the Crusaders, Jacob and Jason Sjuts each scored 16 points.  Jacob fouled out, but Jason was still on the court at the end and hit what proved to be the winning free throw in the final seconds.  It was the last of 17 made free throws in 22 attempts for the Bulldogs, while GICC was just 7-of-17 from the foul line.  The victory concluded a 28-1 season for the Humphrey club.
