Otten Enlists Marines to Help CHS Volleyball Team Train

Who knows more about teamwork than the Marines?  That was the thought of Columbus High volleyball coach Jeri Otten.  So, she brought in some Marines to a Discoverers practice in advance of their season opener tonight against Fremont.

The Marines took the young volleyball squad through combat training, including an 800-meter run, carrying teammates on their backs like casualties and going through an obstacle course.  Otten says the Marines taught her players teamwork, leadership and accountability.

First serve at CHS tonight is set for 6:30 p.m.  You can hear play-by-play on KLIR 101.

Also tonight, the Scotus volleyball club opens its season at Kearney Catholic.  Lakeview’s opener is next Tuesday at Schuyler.
