Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation Heading To Grand Jury

COLUMBUS- An officer-involved shooting that transpired on February 6, and resulted in the death of 17-year-old Chase Ditter, is now headed to a grand jury.

The Columbus Police Department was recently notified by the Nebraska State Patrol that a preliminary investigation has been turned over to the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office. Columbus Police officers were conducting a welfare check at around 1 p.m. Feb. 6, at a residence on the 3600 block of 39th Avenue in Columbus. During the encounter, a Columbus Police officer deployed a Taser that made contact with Ditter. Another officer subsequently discharged their duty weapon. Three of the four Columbus Police officers involved in the incident have returned to full duty, while the fourth will remain on administrative leave until the grand jury’s determination.

NSP did not share any opinion about the incident, as its policy is to let the grand jury investigators formulate their own opinions.
