Two freshmen on Nebraska’s softball team won Big Ten weekly awards yesterday. Kaylin Kinney was named the conference’s player of the week and Billie Andrews was selected as the league’s co-freshman of the week.
Kinney is the first Husker freshman to win a conference player of the week honor since Taylor Edwards in 2011, when NU was in the Big 12. In Nebraska’s four-game sweep of Maryland, Kinney went 4-for-5 with three home runs and six RBI. She started the third game of the series and allowed only one run in five innings.
Andrews went 6-for-11 against the Terrapins and matched Kinney with three homers and six RBI.
