NU Men’s Hoops Drops Season Opener to Western Illinois

The Nebraska men’s basketball team fell in the final seconds of its season opener.  A three-pointer with 6.7 seconds left gave Western Illinois a 75-74 win over the Huskers last night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

NU’s Alonzo Verge posted his first career double-double with 26 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, but he missed a shot at the buzzer.  Bryce McGowens scored 25 points, the most ever by a Nebraska freshman in his debut.  However, as a team the Huskers shot just 39 percent and were out-rebounded 57-37.

The Huskers return to action at “The Vault” Friday night against Sam Houston.
