NU Basketball Hall of Famer Andre Smith Dies

Former Husker basketball standout Andre Smith has died.  He was 64 years old.

A two-time All-Big Eight first-team selection, Smith was named the conference’s player of the year as a senior in 1981.  The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 18.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game that season.  Smith is one of only two Nebraska players to ever earn a conference player of the year award – Venson Hamilton in 1998 being the other.

A seventh-round draft pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1981, Smith was inducted into the Nebraska Basketball Hall of Fame in 1994.
