North Bend Wins Fourth Straight Girls Hoops Crown
North Bend Central claimed its fourth straight girls state basketball title and sixth in history today.
The Tigers pulled away in the second half of the C1 state championship to defeat Adams Central 45-28. Lindsey Emanuel had 13 points to tie Madison Bishop for the game-high. Kaitlyn Emanuel added 12 points, nine coming after intermission when the Tigers were up 19-14. The Emanuel sisters each pulled down nine rebounds for North Bend.
The Tigers’ 28th consecutive win wrapped up a 28-1 campaign and gave the East Husker Conference power a 106-8 record over the past four seasons.
Adams Central was trying for its second state title and first since the Patriots beat Scotus Central Catholic in the 1995 C1 championship game. The Hastings club finished this season at 26-2.
In Saturday’s third place game in Class D2, Humphrey St. Francis fell to Shelton 48-43. The Flyers wound up 20-8.
