No. 23 Huskers Face Ranked FCS Team in Northern Iowa

No. 23 Nebraska will enter its football game against Northern Iowa on Saturday as a Top 25 team for the first time in five years.

The Huskers are 2-0 in a season for the first time since 2016.  UNI is ranked No. 21 in the second-tier FCS after opening with wins over Valparaiso and St. Thomas of Minnesota.

The Panthers have a veteran head coach in Mark Farley who has a record of 181-101 as UNI’s head coach since 2001.  Unlike NU’s first two opponents, UTEP and Colorado, Northern Iowa has a slower-paced offense that focuses on its running game.  The Panthers defense is usually solid and it appears to be again this season after allowing 17 total points in the first two games.

The last time UNI beat a power conference team came in 2016, when it opened the season with a 25-20 win over Iowa State.  Nebraska is 14-0 in games against FCS teams, all since 1992.

Saturday’s kickoff at Memorial Stadium is at 6:30 p.m.  The pregame begins at 2:30 on News Talk 900 KJSK.  It will be joined at 6 on 93.5 The Hawk.
