Former Nebraska running back Terrell Newby has ended his attempts to play football professionally, instead joining the Nebraska Army National Guard.  He’s scheduled to begin training in July at Fort Benning, Georgia.

In his four years with NU from 2013 to 2016, Newby played in every one of the Huskers’ 52 games.  He compiled 2,239 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns.

Newby’s professional career never took off in the NFL and he last played in the Alliance of American Football before it folded last April, just months after its debut.

Now, Newby will follow in his dad’s footsteps, as Terrell Sr. served in the Army in the 1980s.
