Nebraska Football Sets Modern Mark for Close Losses

Nebraska earned the dubious distinction of being the best 3-9 football team in recent history.

Since 1978, when Division I was split into what’s now known as the Bowl Subdivision and Championship Subdivision, no team until the 2021 Huskers had nine single-digit losses in a season.  That’s according to Sportradar, following NU’s 28-21 loss to Iowa, which left the Huskers with a final record of 3-9, just 1-8 in the Big Ten.

Nebraska set a good team record in 2021, averaging 9.35 yards per pass attempt.  The previous mark was 9.09 yards, set in 1978.
