Motz Moving on From CHS to Norris High
Jimmy Motz has resigned as Columbus High’s head boys basketball coach to take the same position at Norris High.
Motz coached the Discoverers for the past five seasons. His CHS clubs went 45-67, although that record was dragged down by a 2-18 campaign in 2018-19.
In the school’s news release, Motz said: “My family and I have appreciated what the community and school have done for us during our five years here.” In a text, Motz said it was “not an easy decision” but added his family is “rooted in Southeast Nebraska.”
Columbus High Activities Director Tim Kwapnioski thanked Motz in the release, writing “he’s had a tremendous influence on a lot of young people (in the classroom and on the court).” Kwapnioski said a search for a successor is underway.
At Norris, Motz will take over for Matt Shelsta, who was recently named Norfolk High’s boys basketball coach.
