Mickey Joseph and Ernest Hausmann Talk to Reporters

Nebraska interim coach Mickey Joseph told reporters Tuesday afternoon that quarterback Casey Thompson was “really beat up on Saturday.”  Joseph said Thompson suffered an injury to a nerve in his right elbow in the loss to Illinois and his status is day-to-day.

Joseph said backup quarterbacks Chubba Purdy and Logan Smothers took an even amount of reps with the starters in yesterday’s practice. Joseph was asked about Purdy’s performance against Illinois.  “Chubba just has to settle down,” Joseph replied. “He has to breathe at that position.  He cannot let his emotions take over.”

Linebacker Ernest Hausmann also spoke to the media yesterday.  The freshman from Columbus started early this season against North Dakota and Georgia Southern.  Hausmann didn’t make his third start until last Saturday.

He was asked how he handled being sat down.  “It’s a business here playing college football,” Hausmann said.  “You just learn that you don’t take that personally.  That’s how it is.  Stay the process and be the best supporter of your teammates and your football team.”

Earlier this week, Hausmann was listed as a co-starting candidate for Saturday’s home game against Minnesota.

Kickoff is at 11 a.m.  The pregame starts at 7 a.m. on News Talk 900 KJSK.  It will be joined at 10:30 on 93.5 The Hawk.
