McDermott Tops CU Career Wins, Kalkbrenner Can’t Miss
Greg McDermott became Creighton’s winningest men’s basketball coach in history last night.
The 14th-ranked Bluejays cruised to a 78-43 victory over Houston Christian in Omaha. It improved McDermott to 328-160 in his 15th season with CU. His predecessor, Dana Altman, went 327-176 from 1994 to 2010.
With the win, the Jays improved to 3-0. Ryan Kalkbrenner paced all scorers with 16 points and hit all six of his field goal attempts. For the season, the Bluejays big man is shooting over 92 percent from the floor, going 35-for-38.
Creighton is back at CHI Health Center Saturday to take on Kansas City at 6 p.m.
Four-star recruit Hudson Greer, a 6-foot-6 guard signed yesterday with Creighton. After playing three seasons for an Austin, Texas high school, he’s currently at prep powerhouse Montverde Academy in Florida. Greer was ranked as the No. 27 prospect in the class of 2025 by ESPN.
