Mathis, Thompson Tabbed by ESPN as Top Newcomers

Nebraska edge rusher Ochaun Mathis and quarterback Casey Thompson have each been ranked by ESPN among the top 15 newcomers for this season.
Mathis came in at No. 7 on ESPN’s ranking, while Thompson was No. 15. ESPN considered all incoming freshmen and first-year transfers across the nation.
Mathis was the highest ranked Big Ten player on the list. The junior edge rusher transferred to NU in the offseason from TCU.
Thompson was one of seven quarterbacks to make the list of 50 newcomers. He spent the past four seasons at Texas, and was the Longhorns’ starting signal-caller in 2021.
