Live horse racing at Ag Park will apparently not be held this year due to COVID-19.

In a post on the Columbus Races Facebook page, organizers said they held off making the difficult decision as long as they could, waiting for conditions to improve at the city, county and state level.  But, the post adds: “This has not happened and it appears we still have some challenging times ahead of us.”

After traditionally racing at Ag Park in August, this year’s meet had been scheduled for ten days from May 29th through June 21st.  The season had been moved up in an effort to keep more horsemen in the state.

The cancellation of the live meet is pending approval of a waiver by the state racing commission on May 22.  Similar waivers have already been approved allowing live racing meets in Omaha and Lincoln to be canceled.
