Lakeview, Scotus, Area Teams Make Football Preseason Ratings
The fall sports season gets underway this week for some Nebraska high school teams, including some week zero games in football. The Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal Star have both released their football preseason ratings.
In Class C-1, defending state champion Lakeview is ranked No. 9 in the World-Herald and seventh in the Journal Star. Scotus is No. 10 in the Omaha paper and sixth in the Lincoln publication. Boone Central is No. 4 in the Omaha rankings and No. 5 in the Lincoln ratings. Aquinas is No. 10 in the World-Herald C-2 rankings and is one spot higher in the Journal Star.
Cross County and Clarkson/Leigh appear in both newspapers’ D-1 ratings. In the Omaha paper, the Cougars are ranked fifth, one spot ahead of the Patriots, while the Lincoln paper has Cross County No. 2 and Clarkson/Leigh at sixth. Howells-Dodge, after winning the D-1 title last year, is on top of the D-2 ratings in both publications. The World-Herald tabs Osceola No. 3 and St. Francis No. 9, while the Journal Star has the Bulldogs seventh and the Flyers tenth.
Columbus opens its season this Friday at rival Fremont. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and you can hear the game on 93.5 The Hawk.
