Lakeview head football coach Kurt Frenzen says the Vikings players are “upbeat and really excited” to be on the field getting ready for their season opener Friday at Boys Town.  Lakeview will look to improve on its 4-5 record in 2019.

Junior Jaeden Jenkinson is the lone returning starter on the offensive and defensive lines.  Frenzen calls Jenkinson “a tremendous edge setter” at defensive end.

After missing last season with a torn labrum, senior Austen Smith is expected to be an impact player for the Vikings at fullback and outside linebacker.

Junior Kolby Blaser takes over at quarterback.  Frenzen says he has a great possession receiver to throw the football  to in junior Mason Klug.  And Frenzen calls receiver Adam Van Cleave one of the top play-makers in Class C-1.

Frenzen says Van Cleave is also “very good” at safety.  But, he added Lakeview will try to build some depth in the defensive secondary as senior Layne Forney and sophomore Braxton Borer will both miss this season due to injuries.

After this week’s trip to Boys Town, the Vikings’ home opener is slated for next Friday against Pierce.  You can hear play-by-play of that game on KZ-100.
