Kuhlman, Mickey and Scotus’ Team Makes State Golf

Columbus High will have two golfers compete in the Class A state tournament, while the Scotus boys team has advanced to the Class C state tourney at Elks Country Club.

Columbus didn’t qualify as a team by carding a 353 and finishing fifth in yesterday’s A-2 district tournament at Riverside Golf Club.  But Discoverers senior Brock Kuhlman fired a 78 to earn fifth place and a trip to the state championship next week in Norfolk.  Brody Mickey’s 86 didn’t earn an automatic spot at state, but he qualified today through an individual differential.

Scotus won the C-2 district tourney at Fremont Golf Club by posting a 322.  All five Shamrocks finished in the top 10, led by Mason Gonka whose 78 was good for second place.  Jaylin Jakub of Aquinas shot an 82 to place seventh and qualify for state.

Howells-Dodge and Humphrey St. Francis are going to the Class D state tournament in North Platte.  The Jaguars won the D-2 district title and the Flyers were third at Indian Trails Country Club.

More area teams are competing in districts today, including Lakeview in B-2 action at Wayne.
