Kalkbrenner Repeats as Big East Defensive POY

A day after being named to the All-Big East First Team, Creighton junior Ryan Kalkbrenner was tabbed today as the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year.

The 7-foot-1 center won the award for the second straight season.  He’s just the 11th player in league history to win the honor more than once.  Kalkbrenner tops the Big East with 2.2 blocked shots per game, which ranks 18th nationally.

The Bluejays will play in Thursday’s Big East tournament quarterfinals at 8:30 p.m.  CU will face the winner of Wednesday’s Georgetown-Villanova matchup.
