Joseph Fires Defensive Coordinator Chinander

Nebraska interim head football coach Mickey Joseph announced Sunday that he has relieved Erik Chinander from his position as defensive coordinator.

Assistant coach Bill Busch, who has been coaching special teams, will coordinate the defense for the remainder of the 2022 season.

“We appreciate Erik and the work and dedication he has given to our football program,” Joseph said. “At this time, I feel that it is in the best interest of the Nebraska Football program to take the leadership of the defense in another direction and decided Bill Busch will take over as defensive coordinator.”

The move came one day after the Huskers suffered a 49-14 loss to Oklahoma and eight days following a stunning 45-42 defeat against Georgia Southern that cost head coach Scott Frost his job.

NU currently ranks 114th in scoring defense and 128th among 131 FBS teams in yards allowed per game.
