Jaguars Will Meet Bulldogs Saturday for D1 State Crown

Blake Sindelar relentlessly drove to the basket and scored a game-high 31 points, leading Howells-Dodge to a 76-45 romp over previously unbeaten Burwell in the boys state basketball tournament.

In tomorrow’s D1 championship, the Jaguars will meet Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.  The Bulldogs beat North Platte St. Patrick’s 52-39 in yesterday’s other semifinal, topping the Irish in Lincoln for a second straight season.

The Jaguars’ win was their 20th in 28 games this season and ended Burwell’s 25-game winning streak. It was fueled by Sindelar, a day after the 6-2 junior guard scored 30 points in a quarterfinal victory over Walthill.  Howells-Dodge had led by a single point, 28-27 at halftime before erupting for 25 points – 16 from Sindelar – in the third quarter.

Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family was tied with St. Patrick’s at 18-all at the half, but the Bulldogs won the third period 19-11.  H/LHF is now 22-5 and will be looking for its second D1 title in three seasons tomorrow.

Tipoff at Pinnacle Bank Arena is 9 a.m.  You can hear play-by-play of the D1 championship game on KZ-100.
