Jaguars Smother Cougars to Capture D1 Football Title

Howells-Dodge concluded an undefeated football season and won the Class D1 championship with a 42-12 victory over Cross County today at Memorial Stadium.
Neither team scored in the first quarter, but Howells-Dodge took control in the second quarter and led 20-0 at halftime. Levi Belina led the Jaguars with 153 yards rushing on 23 carries. He had four rushing touchdowns and also tossed a six-yard TD pass. The Cougars’ Carter Seim had 22 carries for 97 yards, but no touchdowns.
Howells-Dodge finished 13-0 and won its first state title since the co-op began in 2012. Cross County wound up as a runner-up in its first state championship game and with an 11-2 record.
The game was aired on 93.5 The Hawk, as will tomorrow’s C1 championship between Lakeview and Pierce. It also has a 10:15 a.m. kickoff.
