Huskers Win Following Teddy Allen’s Departure
Hours after announcing leading scorer Teddy Allen had left Nebraska, the Huskers cruised past Rutgers 72-51. Lat Mayen scored 25 points with five 3-pointers in the win at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Earlier on Monday, Allen and coach Fred Hoiberg released a joint statement announcing the departure. Hoiberg mentioned last week that Allen had been bothered by a wrist issue and Allen said he decided to focus on getting fully healthy for the next step in his basketball journey.
NU was Allen’s third Division I program in what espn.com aptly described as a “mercurial career.”
Allen averaged 16.4 points per game and just last week he scored a PBA-record 41 points in an 86-83 loss to Penn State.
After last night’s win, Nebraska is 7-17 overall, 3-14 in the Big Ten.
The Huskers visit number 5 Iowa on Thursday for an 8 p.m. game. The pregame starts at 7 on News Talk 900 KJSK.
