Huskers Fall to Terrapins, Take On Spartans Tonight
Nebraska fell to top-seeded Maryland 2-1 in 10 innings in a weather-delayed Big Ten baseball tournament game last night.
With the game tied at 1-1 and two outs in the bottom of the tenth, Nick Lorusso delivered a walk-off home run off Shay Schanaman. The Huskers were batting in the top of the seventh when the game endured a 1-hour-33-minute delay due to lightning in the area. When play resumed, NU stranded two runners in the seventh. An inning later, Brice Matthews stole second base to become the first 20-20 player in Nebraska history and put runners at second and third with two outs. But, Maryland escaped the threat with a strikeout.
The Huskers face Michigan State in an elimination game tonight. The Spartans stayed alive yesterday with a 6-4 win over Rutgers. First pitch at Charles Schwab Field is set for 7 p.m. The pregame starts at 6 on News Talk 900 KJSK.
On the other side of the bracket Thursday, Iowa improved to 2-0 in the tourney with a 9-4 victory over Indiana.
