Huskers Down Hoosiers Again, Face Penn State for Title

Nebraska batters smashed three more home runs out of spacious Charles Schwab Field in Omaha Saturday night, beating Indiana 10-4, with the Huskers’ second win of the day against the Hoosiers advancing them into Sunday’s Big Ten Championship game.

No. 2 seed Nebraska will take on No. 8 Penn State for the title.   It’s NU’s first appearance in the championship since 2019.  The Huskers are the first team since Minnesota in 2009 to lose in the tourney’s opening round, then win four straight elimination games to make the final.

The Nittany Lions went 3-0 in the event’s other bracket, upsetting No. 1 seed Illinois in the first round and then defeating fourth-seeded Michigan for the second time in three days, edging the Wolverines 7-6 in 10 innings Saturday.

Due to storms in the forecast for Omaha, the championship game has been moved up four hours to a 10 a.m. first pitch.  It will be televised on BTN, but can no longer be aired due to previous programming commitments on News Talk 900 KJSK.
