Howells-Dodge, H/LHF, St. Francis Make Boys State Semifinals

Blake Sindelar scored 30 points and RJ Bayer added 23 as Howells-Dodge towered over Walthill in a 68-49 victory in the opening round of the D1 boys state basketball tournament. 

The win in yesterday’s quarterfinals improved the Jaguars to 19-8 and moved them into today’s 1:30 p.m. semifinal against top-seeded and 25-0 Burwell.  The Longhorns downed fellow Goldenrod Conference foe Central Valley 53-45.

Today’s 4 p.m. semifinal pits Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family against North Platte St. Patrick’s.  The Bulldogs saw a 13-point third quarter lead over Southern Valley turn into a 41-39 deficit late in the fourth period.  But, H/LHF rallied to win 49-43 and advanced to the semifinals for a third straight year.  St. Pat’s stayed alive yesterday with a 59-47 victory over Ansley-Litchfield.

Humphrey St. Francis will meet playoff rival Falls City Sacred Heart in a D2 semifinal.  Tipoff at Pinnacle Bank Arena is set for 11:15 a.m.  It will be aired on KLIR 101. 

The Flyers topped Wynot 49-41, while the Irish edged Mullen 49-47 yesterday. 

In another D2 quarterfinal, Osceola fell to St. Mary’s 62-50 as the Bulldogs wound up 20-7. 

In C2 action last night, St. Paul was downed by Adams Central 63-56 in overtime, giving the Wildcats a final record of 23-3.
