Holgersen is Huskers New O.C.; Raiola Will Try to Practice Today

Dana Holgorsen is Nebraska football’s new offensive coordinator.

Huskers head coach Matt Rhule announced the hire yesterday, while saying Marcus Satterfield will continue to coach tight ends.  Holgorsen was recently brought in by Rhule for the former West Virginia and Houston head coach to analyze NU’s struggling offense. Rhule was asked what Holgorsen can bring to the table.

“He gives us a fresh perspective,” Rhule said.  “I’m looking at what we’re doing and who we’re doing it with and he was able to say ‘hey, let’s go in these directions over here.’  I just think it gives us a great opportunity to have one of the great, great offensive minds, a guy that I’ve been friends with before and I trust – excited to see what he does.”

As the Huskers prepare to visit USC Saturday, Rhule said quarterback Dylan Raiola – who suffered a back injury against UCLA – would “ try to practice” today, adding the coaches are getting both him and Heinrich Haarberg ready.

Saturday’s kickoff is set for 3 p.m.  The pregame begins at 11 a.m. on News Talk 900 KJSK.  It will be joined at 2:30 on 93.5 The Hawk.  It was announced Monday that Nebraska’s home game against Wisconsin next Saturday will have a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
