Grand Island Woman Shot Early Monday Morning

GRAND ISLAND- At 12:24am this morning, the Grand Island Police Department responded to a shooting incident at 2104 N. Huston Ave where it was determined that 50 year old Melissa Chavez of Grand Island woman was shot by her estranged husband.

Officers were able to track down the suspect, 44 year old Mario Chavez of Grand Island, and take him into custody without incident around 2:30 am following a short standoff and negotiation. Chavez is currently charged with Assault in the 1st Degree.

Melissa Chavez is in stable condition and is being treated for her injuries.
