Grand Island Police Officer Assaulted By Man With Knife
GRAND ISLAND- A Grand Island Police Officer was assaulted by a man with a Knife Tuesday.
At 12:45 p.m. Omer Arbab was contacted by GIPD for a welfare check as two passerbys saw Arbab laying on a picnic table covered up with a blanket and not moving. Arbab initially refused to provide his name but then provided his name but refused to provide his date of birth. Arbab then grabbed an orange bag and refused to put the bag down. Officers attempted to detain Arbab who physically resisted and removed a 3 inch bladed knife and attempted to stab an officer in the chest, cutting the officer’s left hand. Arbab walked away and was contacted by additional officers while still carrying the knife in his hand. Arbab again refused to drop the knife to the ground. Officers were able to remove the knife and Arbab continued to pull his arms away from officers as officers were attempting to place handcuffs on Arbab.
Arbab was arrested for Obstruction, 2nd Degree Assault on a Police Officer, Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony & Resisting Arrest.
