Frank Solich, who spent more than 20 years coaching at Nebraska, is retiring after leading Ohio University’s football team for 16 seasons.

The school announced yesterday that Solich was stepping down less than two months before the start of the season to focus on his health.  Offensive coordinator Tim Albin was promoted to head coach.

The 76-year old Solich retires with a 173-101 career coaching record.  He led the Bobcats to 115 of those victories and 11 bowl appearances.  Solich was the head coach at Nebraska from 1998 to 2003.  He guided the Huskers to a 58-19 record and five trips to bowl games. After starring at fullback for NU in the ’60s, his career as a Nebraska assistant coach began in 1979.
