Four Discoverers, One Viking Reach State Wrestling Semifinals

Four Columbus High wrestlers and one from Lakeview went 2-0 yesterday, advancing to today’s semifinals at the state wrestling tournament.

The four Discoverers who are one win away from wrestling for a boys Class A state title are Brenyn Delano, Blake Cerny, Adrian Bice and Caydn Kucera.  The Vikings’ Landon Ternus recorded two pins to reach the semifinals in Class B.

Several area grapplers won twice yesterday in Class C, including four who are still undefeated going into the semifinals.  They are Central City teammates Drew Garfield and Cole Kunz, both 47-0, Christopher Nickolite of Aquinas at 45-0, and Cross County/Osceola’s Cameron Graham, who’s 54-0.  The area wrestlers in today’s Class D semifinals include two more who are unbeaten this year.  Jestin Bayer of Howells-Dodge is 49-0, while Gunner Reimers of Palmer is 47-0 and is a win away from competing for his second consecutive state gold medal.

In the team standings, Columbus High is third in Class A with 50.5 points, three-and-a-half points behind Lincoln East.  Millard South, pursuing its fourth straight team title, leads with 85 points.  Aquinas Catholic tops Class C with 68 points, 19 ahead of Milford.

The boys’ action continues today and the first-ever girls tourney starts.  You can hear updates today and tomorrow on KZ-100 and KLIR 101.
