Former Huskers Povich, Schwellenbach Impress in Big League Duel

Former Huskers Cade Povich and Spencer Schwellenbach last night became the first Nebraska duo to square off against each other as Major League starters.

Povich’s Orioles beat Schwellenbach’s Atlanta Braves 4-2 in Baltimore.  Neither pitcher was involved in the decision, but both worked six innings, both threw 89 pitches and both were very impressive.

Povich, in his second big league start, threw six scoreless innings, allowing five hits.  He did not walk a batter, although he hit one, and had six strikeouts.  In his third Major League start, Schwellenbach gave up two runs on four hits, walking two and striking out three.

Nebraska coach Will Bolt was at Camden Yards to watch the duel between the two starters, who were both selected early in the 2021 MLB draft.
