Former Husker Men’s Hoops Assistant Coach Williams Dies

Former Nebraska men’s basketball assistant coach Jimmy Williams has died.

He passed away Monday at the age of 77.  Williams spent seven seasons at Nebraska and played a major role in the Huskers making the postseason every year in that span.  That included NU winning the 1994 Big Eight tournament and the 1996 NIT Championship.

Williams coached the Huskers’ big men, including 1999 Big 12 Player of the Year Venson Hamilton.  He played a significant role in NU’s recruiting efforts under head coach Danny Nee, including players such as Hamilton, Tyronn Lue, Cookie Belcher and Larry Florence.

Williams also coached at several other colleges and with the NBA’s Minnesota’s Timberwolves.
