Former Bluejay Guillen Starts World Cup Soccer Match

Former Creighton women’s soccer standout Gabriela Guillen made history on Wednesday.
She became the first Bluejays soccer player, men’s or women’s, to start a World Cup match. Guillen gained her first starting cap with the Costa Rican National Team. She played 45 minutes against Japan, recording her team’s first shot on goal in a 2-0 loss.
Meanwhile, the United States played the Netherlands to a 1-1 draw.
