The COVID-19 outbreak has hit Grand Island hard, but according to multiple media reports Fonner Park received some good news yesterday from the Nebraska Racing Commission.

The track’s request to extend live racing through May was approved by the commission in a conference call.

Fonner’s meet was slated to end April 29th.  The extension allows the track to hold races Mondays through Wednesdays from May 3rd to the 31st.  The track will continue to run races without spectators in the grandstand, as it has done for the past month.

Fonner Park is one of only five tracks in the nation holding races now and the track’s wagering figures have received a big boost through simulcasting.
