Foley Breaks Down Huskers’ Blocked FG for a TD vs. Purdue

Nebraska special teams coordinator Ed Foley explained yesterday how the Huskers pulled off a blocked field goal in Saturday’s 31-14 win over Purdue.

Quinton Newsome returned the block 68 yards for a touchdown to put the Huskers up 21-0 in the third quarter.  Foley said Newsome was in the team’s “scoop and score” position.

“We got good penetration by the inside guys,” Foley said.  “They muffed their operation a little bit, so the kick was a little bit low, but Elijah Jeudy got through, Ty Robinson got good push there….Elijah got it and knocked it right to Q.”

Foley also credited Newsome with making an over-the-shoulder catch to prevent the ball from hitting the ground.

NU will be looking for its fourth straight win on Saturday when the Huskers visit Michigan State.  Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.  The pregame begins at 7 on News Talk 900 KJSK and will be joined at 10:30 on 93.5 The Hawk.
