The Humphrey St. Francis girls were denied a repeat state title in Friday night’s D2 final by the team the Flyers beat in last year’s championship, Falls City Sacred Heart.

The Irish scored 11 of the game’s final 14 points to pull away for a 43-33 win.  Sacred Heart made some clutch passes and used efficient free throw shooting – hitting seven of nine foul shots – to hold off St. Francis in the final quarter.

Kaylee Stricklin led the Flyers with 10 points, but scored only three after the opening period.  With the loss, HSF ended the season with a 25-4 record and claimed its sixth runner-up finish rather than its fifth state crown.

Sacred Heart’s Rachel Magdanz led all scorers with 14 points and had six rebounds.  The Irish went 27-3 and won  their seventh state championship.
