First School Choice Bill in Nebraska Signed Into Law
LINCOLN- Governor Jim Pillen signed LB753, also known as the Opportunity Scholarships Act, is the first school choice bill in Nebraska’s history to be signed into law.
LB753 commits $50 million in tax credits for scholarships to kids across Nebraska with priority for scholarships going to kids who live in poverty, foster care, experience bullying, harassment, or other victimizing behaviors, or have a parent or guardian who is serving in the military. eremy Ekeler, the associate director of education policy for the Nebraska Catholic Conference, said LB753 ensures that more parents have the opportunity to find the best school for their children.
With the Governor’s signature, Nebraska joins 48 other states offering school choice.
