Eickhoff, Griffith Help Columbus Seniors Stay Alive in State Tourney

The Cornerstone Insurance Group Columbus Seniors scored three runs in the first inning and made it stand up in a 3-2 victory over Elkhorn North in Monday’s state tournament action in Hastings.

Columbus starter Ryan Eickhoff scattered nine hits and allowed two runs in six innings a week after doing the same thing in an area tourney win.  Alex Griffith retired Elkhorn North’s 2-3-4 hitters in the seventh, finishing with a strikeout to earn his second save in as many days.

Cornerstone staved off elimination from the Class A National Division tourney for the second straight day, improving to 2-1 in Hastings and 19-12 overall.

Columbus meets Burke in today’s semifinals at 4 p.m. on KLIR 101.
