Discoverers Basketball Teams Fall as HAC Tourney Opens

Both Columbus High basketball clubs suffered losses in yesterday’s opening round of the Heartland Athletic Conference tournament. 

The CHS boys fell at Lincoln Northeast 67-51.  Blake Thompson led the Discoverers with 14 points, while Tadan Bell scored 13 and Ernest Hausmann added 12. Pierce Bazil of the Rockets led all scorers with 35 points.

The loss dropped Columbus to 0-7 and into the tourney’s consolation bracket.  The Discoverers meet Fremont tomorrow at Lincoln Northeast, with tipoff set for 5 p.m. 

Meanwhile, the Columbus girls were downed at Norfolk 51-22.  The Discoverers’ fourth straight loss dropped their record to 1-6. 

Columbus will play Lincoln Northeast in tomorrow’s consolation round.  It’s a 2 p.m. tipoff at Lincoln High.
